![]() ![]() Whether that will help you "float the gears" is a question for you and your maker. This transmission boasts a 6.16:1 first gear, a 0.76:1 overdrive, and a 6.03:1 reverse gear, and the sellers advertise an "excellent shift feel and performance, with crisp, precise shifts." The TR-4050 is rated to hold 600 ft-lb or torque. The TR-4050 is a Tremec transmission that was borrowed from an overseas application and is available through Silver Sport Transmissions (SST). The NV4500 transmission is considered to be the toughest and most reliable 5 speed manual transmission ever built. The NV4500 is also rated to hold 460 lb-ft of torque but can likely handle significantly more. That low first gear and overdrive do make it plenty desirable, though. Still, this is a rare (especially the one you have), strong transmission that has been accused of shifting pretty slowly, like most granny-geared earlier four-speed transmissions-maybe a bit better. Subsequently the transmission was used by several manufacturers but with only a 5.61:1 first gear, making those less desirable. It came with a 0.74:1 overdrive and a 5.61:1 reverse. That is the early General Motors NV4500 five-speed with a 6.32:1 first gear and was only available from GM in 1992, 1993, and 1994. ![]() Honestly, that's a tough question, mostly because you apparently already have one of the most desirable manual transmissions for any off-road vehicle. ![]()
